The Pichon Longueville au Baron de Pauillac 2001 is a deep ruby, purple-colored Pauillac showcases class/nobility/breed along with black currant liqueur, licorice, and incense notes, and is a very good attempt for this vintage in the Medoc. It’s sweet, expansive, fleshy, and medium to full-bodied, with good structure, ripe tannin, and a long, 30-35 second finish. It’s drinkable today, but will improve over time; it’ll last 12-15 years. I’ve tasted this wine three times out of the bottle, and it’s substantially better than it was in the barrel.
