Vineyard and soil

Mazy-Chambertin, also known as Mazis-Chambertin, lies halfway up the slope south of Charmes-Chambertin, among the grands crus of Gevrey-Chambertin. The soil is fairly thin and stony, with plenty of limestone and little topsoil. It is well drained and well placed in relation to the sun.

The vineyard is narrow and elongated along the slope.

Grape and style

The wine is made from pinot noir and is characterised by a compact, powerful structure with great concentration. Ripe black fruit, spices and minerals dominate, with firm but fine tannins and a long finish.

In style it is closer to Chambertin than to the softer Charmes-Chambertin, with a certain austerity in its youth.

Classification and rules

Mazy-Chambertin is a grand cru with its own appellation in Gevrey-Chambertin. The wine is made entirely from pinot noir and must meet stricter requirements than the village wines, including maximum yield and ripeness.

Ownership is divided among several owners, so the quantity available remains small.

Producers in our range

These producers feature in our Mazy-Chambertin range: Armand Rousseau, Joseph Roty and Camus.
