Very few vintages of Taylor Vintage Port are described as flashy, but the 1997 is close. The nose is a very ripe mix of blue and black fruits, now fully dissolved back into the wine at two decades of age. More mineral, drier, spicy notes are predominating as the third decade of age begins to wrap itself onto the patina of this wine. You can drink now, but there is never any rush thanks to the refined structural detail that makes up any Taylor vintage. On this day it was a stylish affair, showing some advancement in maturity. Try this with a rich piece of cheese.
