Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting, Christophe Roumier’s 2014 Ruchottes Chambertin Grand Cru had a touch of volatile acidity on the nose, more feisty and fruit-driven than its peers, the barrel more pronounced and clearly requiring more time to be fully assimilated. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, more austere in style but nicely proportioned. There is impressive tension and salinity toward the marine-influenced finish and it feels very persistent. Give it 3 or 4 years in bottle. Tasted September 2017.
