The 2012 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru comes from the family’s own 0.82-hectare of fruit located in the lieux-dits of “Les Fremieres” (one-third of the holding) and in “Monts Luisants” (two-thirds). There are just four barrels this year and that includes 20% whole cluster fruit. It already offers an enthralling, pure bouquet with heavenly scented blackberry, raspberry and pressed roses that are supremely well delineated. As usual, the palate is extremely intense although there is a sense of finesse suffused into this grand cru from beginning to end. This Clos de la Roche frankly soars over its peers, a wine that seems so effortless that is you are left totally under its spell. This might well be the greatest 2012 Burgundy.
